LQRDA - Immigration Services
The Nova Scotia government, through the Nova Scotia Nominee Program (NSNP), enables employers, who have hired or wish to hire potential immigrants, in supporting their employees' applications to become Permanent Residents of Canada. The NSNP also supports the growth of communities by enabling potential immigrants with established ties to apply to become Permanent Residents through the NSNP community identified stream.
Recognizing the potential that newcomers bring to our region, the Lunenburg Queens RDA initiated a partnership with the Nova Scotia Office of Immigration to install an Immigration Navigator for our region. Mr. Corey Pickens provides settlement and integration services in Lunenburg Queens. He is available to assist both immigrants and local businesses as a resource person.
New Leaf Canada is a Halifax-based company that assists potential immigrants in navigating the complex bureaucratic pathways of the immigration process and advises on which streams would be most suitable to their specific situation. The company's President is Pratima Devichand, an Immigration Consultant certified by the Canadian Society of Immigration Consultants, who has over 15 years experience in the immigration field. You can learn more about the company and the Canadian immigration process at www.newleafcanada.com

The United Way of Lunenburg County
invests $128,174 in 25 local organizations
Everyday residents of Lunenburg County are asked to contribute to this cause or that cause with the hope and understanding that something good will come from their donation or that their donation will find a cure or make a difference. There is often a verifiable disconnect between a persons financial contribution and the good that it provides.
Last year hundreds of Lunenburg County people contributed to the United Way of Lunenburg County through our payroll deduction workplace campaigns with the understanding that their contribution would stay in the local community and that some good would come form their contribution.
This year the United Way of Lunenburg County is pleased to report that we have invested $128,174 in 25 Lunenburg County based organizations, community groups and projects. This money will give Lunenburg County residents from all areas of the county the opportunity to meet new challenges and opportunities with confidence.
For a listing of this years funded programs please visit our website at www.lunenburgcounty.unitedway.ca Since our inception 2003 we have invested over $525,000 in 105 community groups and projects.

Senior Friendly™
Become Senior Friendly and Tap a Great Resource!
Senior Friendly Challenge Issued to Local Businesses
Bridgewater, Nova Scotia. April 27, 2010
On April 22, 2010, the Coalition for an Age Friendly Community officially launched the Senior Friendly™ Program for Bridgewater and surrounding area. Seniors and business owners from the Town of Bridgewater and the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg were invited to a breakfast held at the Wildwood Café in Bridgewater to hear more about this business recognition initiative.
“Businesses, organizations, or municipalities can request a Senior Friendly™ Check-up of their facility to help identify areas where they can better meet the needs of their older customers,” Ms. George explained.
Specially trained seniors carry out the check-up and once completed, the business will be issued a certificate and staff are invited to attend a Senior Friendly™ Training Seminar where they will be trained on age-friendly practices. If 60% of an organization’s frontline staff completes the training, the business is then designated Senior Friendly™. The Senior Friendly™ designation gives businesses the right to be identified as Senior Friendly™ with a large decal prominently displayed on the business’ window or door.
“It is our opportunity to be known as a positive and welcoming place for seniors and indeed all citizens. Businesses and agencies that learn to be age-friendly will have an edge with this important group of consumers and be known as a business that pays attention to seniors’ needs while respecting seniors’ contributions.”
The Coalition for an Age Friendly Community extends the Senior Friendly challenge to businesses in the Town of Bridgewater and the Municipality of the District of Luneburg. This is also an opportunity to put out a call for volunteers to participate in the Check-up training program. The next training session for volunteers will be held May 5th, 2010.
To request a Senior Friendly™ check-up, to sign-up as a volunteer for future Check-up training or for more information on this Senior Friendly™ Program and future “Age-Friendly” initiatives please contact:
