October 4, 2010  – Congratulation to the six local businesses that were selected as the winners in the various categories of the Business Excellence Awards. The sold out event was held at the Altantica Hotel and Marina – Oak Island.

The winners for this year’s awards are:

Hospitality Award (Sponsored by CIBC)                  - Fleur de Sel Restaurant

New Business Award (Sponsored by ACSBE)         - School House Gluten-Free Gourmet

Representatives from the seven Chambers of Commerce and Boards of Trade in the Lunenburg Queens region worked together to organize the awards ceremony.  Businesses were nominated by customers, employees, suppliers and owners. The winners in each category were selected by an independent judging committee formed by each category sponsor and they received a specially designed, hand crafted plaque in recognition of their achievement before more than 260 guests who attended the gala event.

Keynote speaker Aileen Reid, Founder & CEO for A.P. Reid Insurance, inspired the audience with her story of the trials and tribulations of starting and growing her business from a one-person one-shop operation to a company with over 20,000 customers across Canada. Emcee for the evening was Jonathan Crouse, the voice of the morning show on the new HANKfm radio station, 100.7 on the fm dial.

Andrew Button, Chairperson of the Awards Organizing Committee, commented:  “Success breeds success; by celebrating the outstanding businesses we have here on the South Shore others are inspired to reach their own level of business excellence. Businesses in Lunenburg-Queens are doing some amazing things and are standing toe-to-toe with their competition on a global stage. The Awards are one way for us to recognize and celebrate their achievements and thank them for the wonderful contribution they make to our community.”

Button was joined on the Awards Organizing Committee by Heather Fralic, Branch Manager, Scotiabank-Bridgewater Mall; Sharon LeBlanc, President, The Performance Synergy Group; Sylvia Booth, Certified General Account, New View Consulting; Barry Tomalin, President South Queens Chamber of Commerce; Jessica Nodding, Corporate Sales / Marketing, Amos Pewter; John Bryson, President of Safe Home Security; Sharon Peripoli, Owner-Operator of Caledonia Country Hostel; Gayle Wilson, President of Hoopoe Canada and Ann O’Connell, Executive Director of the Bridgewater and Area Chamber of Commerce.

The Awards event, which has been running in various forms for more than ten years, was expanded to include businesses from both Queens and Lunenburg Counties in 2009. The event is organized and presented by the seven Chambers of Commerce and Boards of Trade in Lunenburg-Queens: the Chester and Area Chamber of Commerce, Lunenburg Board of Trade, Mahone Bay Chamber of Commerce, Riverport Board of Trade, North Queens Board of Trade, the South Queens Chamber of Commerce, and the Bridgewater and Area Chamber of Commerce, This was the first year that all seven organizations were represented on the organizing committee for the event.

The event enjoys the support of a number of sponsors: Acadia Broadcasting (CKBW and HANKfm), Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC), Bell Aliant, Michelin North America (Canada) Inc. –Bridgewater Plant, CIBC, Clearwater, Nova Scotia Business Inc. Lunenburg Queens – September 20, 2010– Eighteen businesses in Lunenburg and Queens have been selected as finalists from among the more than 100 nominations received for the prestigious Lunenburg Queens Business Excellence Awards.

As well as the honour of being deemed leader in their category, the finalists will be vying for a beautiful plaque crafted by Amos Pewter of Mahone Bay. Each and every one of the nominated companies who agreed to stand in the Awards selection process is receiving free radio publicity on both CKBW and the new HANK 100.7fm station courtesy of Acadia Broadcasting Ltd. Andrew Button, Chairperson of the Awards Organizing Committee said, “All the nominated businesses come out winners in one way or another.”

 Michelin Canada Ltd is sponsoring the guest speaker at the awards ceremony, who will be Aileen Reid, Founder and CEO, A.P. Reid Insurance Stores Limited.

Lunenburg Queens Business Awards

For Immediate Release:

Lunenburg Queens – May 25, 2010– With just a few days left for nominations to come in for the Lunenburg Queens Business Excellence Awards, previous nominees and winners are continuing to reap the rewards from their recognition.

Last year, even before any winners were declared, all the nominees enjoyed their "moment of fame" compliments of CKBW which featured each and every business several times leading up to the awards presentation.

Award Nominations for 2010 Lunenburg Queens Business Excellence Awards are Now Being Accepted

Lunenburg Queens – April 26, 2010  Andrew Button, Chair of the organizing committee for the Lunenburg Queens Business Excellence Awards, announced today, that nominations are now being accepted for the 2010 event.  This year for the first time, there is a web site that will provide up to date information about the event. www.lqbusinessawards.ca. Nominations can be made on line at the website or a paper nomination form can be obtained from your local chamber of commerce or board of trade.
